St Catherine's College Covid-19 Safety Plan 2020

Stage 4: Recovery (specific for Covid-19)

Abatement of numbers of individuals affected by Covid-19 in Aotearoa / New Zealand

The Covid-19 Recovery Health and Safety Plan will ensure that:

  1. the risk of transmitting Covid-19 at school is reduced

  2. effective contact tracing is in place

The Covid-19 Manager will ensure that:

  • parents / caregivers are advised via email that St Catherine’s College has re-opened (relevant details posted on the college website and SCC Notices Facebook page)

  • the school property has been cleaned (as per Ministry of Health regulations)

  • property maintenance has been carried out to ensure safety of returning staff and students

  • relevant instructional posters are displayed prominently in appropriate areas of the school

  • staff and students are welcomed back to the school and wellbeing is addressed before students are re-engaged in learning

  • anyone who shows flu-like symptoms or feels unwell remains at home and reports symptoms via the Covid-19 Healthline 0800 358 5453. Individuals who develop flu-like symptoms at school will be sent home immediately. Return to school is conditional on satisfactory medical certificate or 24 hours after negative Covid-19 test.

  • an isolation area is set up and equipped for unwell individuals waiting to be collected

(Year 13 Common Room Rm 25)

  • the unwell individual’s work area is immediately disinfected

  • individuals absent due to illness are checked on regularly by the school

  • good hygiene and cleaning practices are maintained on the school property, with sufficient supplies of sanitiser, soap, disinfectant and paper towels in appropriate locations

  • Covid-19 Tracing Register is maintained to enable staff and students to be contacted by Public Health Service if probable or confirmed case identified

  • on confirmation of a confirmed or probable case of Covid-19, the school will be closed for 72 hours to allow contact tracing and cleaning, and then potentially for a further 14 days

  • all students remain on the premises for the duration of the school day

  • guidelines for keeping safe in a Covid-19 are reviewed and updated, based on lessons learnt from the Covid-19

College staff will:

  • maintain good hygiene and cleaning practices

  • avoid sharing personal property, cellphones, other devices, food, drink, utensils and crockery

  • maintain safe physical distancing (at a distance that avoids breathing on or touching each each)

  • remain onsite for the duration of the school day

  • inform an adult if they feel unwell and develop one of the following symptoms:

  • fever

shortness of breath

cough

sneezing or a runny nose

  • arrange appointments outside of school hours if possible. If not possible, students will provide school office with appointment details (as per Covid-19 Tracing Register)

College students will:

  • maintain good hygiene and cleaning practices

  • avoid sharing personal property, cellphones, other devices, food, drink, utensils and crockery

  • maintain safe physical distancing (at a distance that avoids breathing on or touching each each)

  • remain onsite for the duration of the school day

  • inform an adult if they feel unwell and develop one of the following symptoms:

fever

shortness of breath

cough

sneezing or a runny nose

  • arrange appointments outside of school hours if possible. If not possible, students will provide school office with appointment details (as per Covid-19 Tracing Register)

Contractors / Visitors will:

  • maintain good hygiene and cleaning practices

  • complete Covid-19 Contact Tracing Register on entry to / exit from college

For staffroom:

  • sanitise on entry to and exit from staffroom

  • use own utensils and crockery

  • rinse own dishes and load into dishwasher

  • label own food stored in refrigerator

  • (for staff on Staffroom Duty – use disposable gloves to unload dishwasher)

  • (for staff on Staffroom Duty – clean and disinfect surfaces)

For high-risk areas such as Technology, Physical Education, Science, Computer Labs, Library, Isolation Room, Sick Bay:

  • appropriate Health and Safety Plans will be developed in consultation with staf

Good hygiene practices:

  • sanitise on entry to school property

  • sanitise on entry to learning spaces

  • sanitise after using tissues

  • maintain a physical distance to avoid breathing on or touching each other

  • wash hands with soap and water often and for at least 20 seconds, then dry

  • cough and sneeze into elbow or by covering mouth and nose with tissues

  • only touch eyes, mouth or nose if hands are clean

  • put used tissues into bin or bag immediately

  • clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects

  • do not share food, drink bottles, utensils or crockery

  • do not share personal equipment
